Sustainable Tulsa

The botany program has been a part of Sustainable Tulsa's Scor3card program since 2017. Sustainable Tulsa is a non-profit organization that provides education, tools, and resources to inform and engage businesses and individuals in the three areas of sustainability: social responsibility, economic vitality, and environmental stewardship — people, profit, planet. Sustainability experts from the organization visit the class and discuss various aspects of sustainability, then, in work groups, botany students research various aspects of sustainability at Union High School and propose solutions. This is integrated into the curriculum, and funded by Sustainable Tulsa. Examples of some of the projects completed using the funds include hypertufa pots, the native prairie, the composting program, and materials for construction of the Veterans raised beds.
